4 Ways to Change Your Life Fast

FacebookPinLinkedIn

Really, anything could change your life fast. At any moment, something could cause your life to make a turn.

Fortunately, there is much you have control of and can do to make some positive pivots and change your life with intention….and for the better….right when you want to.

Here are 4 ways to change your life quickly and easily….plus lots of ideas for each.

Title "4 Ways to Change Your Life Fast -- Choose one step to instantly shift your life." Background at the beach with a straw hat hanging on a tree. --www.starkwellness.com

1. Change something about your environment.

  • You could just give your walls a fresh coat of paint, but what if you gave more thought to energetics and ambiance? What if you chose a soft, cool blue to promote tranquility, or a vibrant yellow to stimulate creativity in your home office, or a nature inspired wall paper for immediate grounding and restoration after a hard day at work?
  • Attack those piles. Anything mounding up is likely casting a shadow on your well-being and over a spot that could be more beautiful. At the very least, move those piles of things….laundry, papers, whatever….into a box or two, and place them out of sight. Set a reminder to tackle them on a particular day in the near future. Or see if you don’t miss anything and just want to throw it all out.
  • Put something beautiful, calming, inspiring, uplifting or grounding in every room of your house. Think candles, essential oil diffusers, photos, quotes, affirmations, souvenirs, cozy blankets, fun pillows, or any other decoration items you love. I love to see woven baskets and things organized in cute glass containers. Walk into each room (bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchen, living areas, etc.) and determine something that could make each space a little more beautiful, calming, inspiring, uplifting or grounding….whatever you want to feel when you enter. Include porches!
  • If there’s a goal you’re trying to attain, how could you change something in your environment to increase your chances of success? On our boat, we keep a nice hanging basket full of fruits or veggies for easy access. I want my son to form a habit of making good food choices, so this is the first thing he sees when he’s searching in the galley (kitchen) for a snack. Plus, no one likes to dig into the under-counter refrigerator to search for lost apples, oranges, carrots, and the like. Very aggravating!
  • Consider other spaces where you spend time besides your home, like your office, car, or yard. Maybe you dread visiting your friend’s house or another family member’s house because it’s gloomy. What could you do to make their space a little more lively so you’ll be more motivated to visit and nourish that important relationship? Then you’ll have done two things to change your life.
  • Relocating isn’t quick and easy, but if you long to move closer to water, mountains, canyons, forests, snow or just a better neighborhood, create a vision board. Put it in a prominent place so you see it often, stay inspired, and get a little lift in your usual daily routine. Create a timeline for however long you think it will take to make the move and a budget. Get started on achieving that goal!

2. Change something about you personally, on the outside.

  • Pulling my hair up always makes me feel more youthful and fun. Experiment with new styles, or get a fresh cut to bring out that alter ego you want to shine.
  • Explore wearing essential oil combinations to come up with your signature scent. If you don’t trust putting essential oils on your skin, put drops in a conspicuous place on your clothing or on a hemp necklace or bracelet. Or purchase a pendant necklace or bracelet made for essential oils. Try peppermint and orange to feel energetic; orange and vanilla absolute to feel joyful and childlike (think of orange dreamciciles from childhood….mmm); lavender and vetiver to feel relaxed; ylang ylang and sandalwood to feel frisky. You can have so much fun and change your life with essential oils!
  • Get a facial, manicure, pedicure, Brazilian wax, or body mask session. Do any of those things yourself at home, and shave your legs. Pampering yourself reminds you of your femininity and brings out your inner goddess. Only good things can come from that. Top it off with wearing the frisky oil combo above, and see what happens to your love life!
  • Give yourself a small new wardrobe. Go out and find a super flattering new dress, pant suit, pair of jeans, set of high heels….or all of these things. Shop thrift stores if you want. If you’re trying to lose weight, don’t let the scale determine when you get to look good. You can sell these things later when you lose the weight. “Dress for success”, my mom always said. I took that to mean: dress to portray yourself the way you want. Dress to be that hot, fit mom or that career woman who’s got it all together.

3. Change something about you personally, on the inside.

  • Start a journal. There are so many options. Free writing is liberating and cleansing for the spirit. If you prefer something more structured, try starting a gratitude journal or a daily review. For the daily review you start each morning with your thoughts and plans for the day, then you take a few minutes each evening to review how things played out and how you might do things differently the next day or maintain your current momentum.
  • This journaling exercise for building self-worth is the most popular on my blog. Many of my clients really like a journaling guide I created about living authentically. It’s called “Free to Be”. Reach out to me by email if you would like a free copy of that.
  • Find something good to listen to each day. Make good use of commutes; make chores more bearable; plan some necessary downtime. If you want to have a better mindset or feel happier, more inspired, less anxious, more confident….there’s a podcast for that. Speak your own affirmations into your voice memos and listen to those while you get ready each morning. So many audiobooks to choose from, too.
  • Read one book related to something you want to change about yourself, and commit to daily reflection and implementation. Find a book buddy to share this journey with you if you need more accountability.
  • Decide to speak more positively, especially about yourself. Set a goal to refrain from complaining and criticizing. Start getting in touch with your true wants and desires (for yourself and from others) so you can speak up about those and drop the negativity. Honing in on this skill will definitely change your life.
  • Learn something new: a new language, type of exercise, sport, hobby, cuisine, skill, subject, instrument, song to sing. See how any of these might open something up for you, or inside of you, and change your life.
  • Start or strengthen your spiritual practice. Explore various practices for deeper prayer, meditation, and/or mindfulness.

4. Adopt a positive habit, or step one up.

  • Prioritize hydration and get those eight glasses of water down. Find this difficult? Add is some interesting flavor combinations such as cucumber and mint, lemon and rosemary, lime and basil.
  • Take a morning or evening walk. So much goodness in getting out in nature at sunrise or sunset.
  • Start meal-planning. Or take this up a notch with healthier recipes or by trying to find real food replacements for some of your favorite processed or take-out foods.
  • Increase your energy with an invigorating self-care practice like dry skin brushing (I love this so much!), hot-cold showering, or performing a few sun-salutations IN the sun.
  • Commit to a weekly meet-up with someone you’d like to feel closer to. A weekly morning coffee, afternoon tea, girls’ night out, tennis practice, or book study. Get back in touch with someone you miss spending time with, and see what’s new for each of you that the other might be interested to learn.
  • Create an uplifting morning routine or a relaxing bedtime routine. Maybe you need an afternoon pick-me up time to enjoy some tea and put your feet up.

Conclusion:

In which one of these areas will you choose to up-level your life? Commit to one strategy and give it your best shot. Be very mindful around it, expect your life to change, and look for the results.

I’d love to know how you’re going to choose to change your life. Send me an email and tell me. And let me know if you need a little more guidance. You can get in touch with me here.
